Playa Fundadores: the beach nearest 5th Avenue
Fundadores is less than a minute from 5th Avenue. You can walk from the avenue to the sand in under a minute.
It is a public beach, open and family friendly. There are volleyball nets, shade, lifeguards and vendors. There are no showers, and dogs are not allowed.
It is also Playa's cultural and activities hub on the beach. Go before 10am for the quiet version. If you stay at Uva de Mar in Centro, it is a 4-minute walk.
Punta Esmeralda: a cenote beside the sea
Punta Esmeralda is the beach for quiet, peaceful, local mornings. It sits at the northern end of 5th Avenue, beside the Paradisus resort. Walk or ride a bicycle to the end of 5th Avenue and the path to the beach starts there.
Families come for one reason. A cenote opens onto the beach, so small children get calm water while the sea is a few steps away. There are showers, shade, lifeguards and vendors.
Dogs are not allowed, though you will see a few. The sunrise is good, and the beach is quiet before 10am. From our Casitas it is a 6-minute walk.
Playa 88: the undeveloped beach
Playa 88 is about a 15-minute walk from the touristy stretch of 5th Avenue. It is one of the few beaches left in Playa that has not been commercialized. It has open sand and nice water.
There are showers, shade, lifeguards and vendors, so "no frills" still means you can eat and rinse off. Dogs are welcome. It is quiet from sunrise until about 10am.
